Positivity Powerhouse

I’m going to start a podcast: the accountability version

"The scariest moment is always just before you start." - Stephen King, "On Writing"

I’m going to start a podcast.

Surprised woman surrounded by multi-colored question marks
You’re doing WHAT? You’re starting a WHO? What the ACTUAL… ?

I haven’t yet. I’m working on it. I’m gearing up for it. I’m preparing for it. I’m fixin’ to get it done. I’m going to.

A mentor once told me, “The hardest part of any business is when you’re getting ready to get going to get started.” And she was absolutely right. This part sucks.

So why don’t I just… start?

Because I’m afraid I’m not good enough to do a podcast.

“Wait, what? You’re the Positivity Powerhouse!”

I know! But I’m also still human. And sometimes, I get afraid. This is one of those times. I’m afraid of failing. I’m afraid of not giving you all the value you deserve. I’m afraid of looking like an idiot. I’m afraid of critics and harsh comments. I’m afraid of succeeding, then not being able to maintain that success.

I’m relying on my sticky notes to keep me going. If you don’t know about my sticky notes, go download Messages From the Wall. (Just make sure you come back to read the rest of this post!)

Mock-up of Messages From the Wall on two different tablets - one shows the cover page, the second is a page from inside the guidebook.
Go forth and read of the messages from mine walls and sear them forevermore into thine own brains.

In particular, I’m leaning hard on these four:

“Someone is praying for you and your skills to appear in their lives right now.”

“See the positive side, the potential, and make an effort.”

“You’ll never know that something is going to succeed if you don’t try and put yourself out there.”

“Do it trembling if you must… but do it.”

So, while I am the Positivity Powerhouse, I am not by any stretch of the imagination the Perfect Powerhouse. I have my fears and my doubts just like anybody. Just like you probably do. But that doesn’t mean I’m not going to put forth the effort.

(Read more about conquering fears and doubts in “Improving self-esteem by controlling the voices in your head.”)

Accountability

So, since accountability is a big thing, and telling people you’re going to do something on a certain date makes it much more likely that you’re going to do that thing on that date, I’m telling you here and now what I’m going to do you and when I’m going to do it.

On Saturday, February 15th, I’m going to batch record a minimum of five podcast episodes. Then I’ll spend the rest of Saturday, and all day Sunday, figuring out exactly what I need to do on the tech side of things, to get the podcast up and loaded on YouTube, Spotify and other podcast channels, embedded on my website, listed on my Facebook page, and wherever else  I can think of to put them.

I’m feeling a wave of panic right now, just having typed that. However, since I am a Promise-keeping Powerhouse, you can bet money I’ll have something up by Monday morning, February 17th.

I kind of know what it’s going to be. I have no idea how good it’s going to be. I just know it’ll be. Whisper words of wisdom, it’ll be.
